“Everybody out!” I say. I pull the school tote and the girls grab their hammocks. We are ready to take lessons outside. It’s finally spring and we can’t wait to get out! There’s no better experience than feeling the breeze ruffle your hair as you listen to the adventures of Little Christian in Little Pilgrim’s Progress (our current read aloud).
We try to get outside as soon as possible in the spring. It’s the key to us enjoying spending time outside once summer rolls around. Our bodies have an opportunity to acclimate to the rising temperature and being outside in the heat isn’t such a shock.
Secret confession: I also keep the temperature in the house warmer during the summer. It not only saves on the cooling bill, it also encourages us to get outside because it’s not such a cool haven inside. Shh, don’t tell the kids and I won’t tell yours. 😉
I also keep a stock of fresh fruit popsicles or fruit smoothies in the freezer. Cooling down the core body temperature can also gain you an extra hour outside on a hot day!
