She was struggling.
She wanted to read so badly.
She was trying so hard.
We had tried so many things to improve her reading ability. And still, reading was a challenge for her.
Fast forward a few months. She wasn’t reading independently yet, but her reading ability had definitely improved. I thought back to what we had been doing the past few months and realized the only thing we did differently was to record the videos for Hand Clapping Fun.
Could hand clapping games have made such a noticeable difference?
I started thinking about what we did to record the videos. It boiled down to the fact that she practiced them over and over and over. She spent several months living and breathing hand clapping games. After all, she was getting paid to record the videos. She wanted to do a good job so she would get paid.
Before we recorded a single video, the girls had to perfect the clapping games they knew and learn some new ones. They had to work together to synchronize their timing. They learned how to smile while concentrating and how to look like they were having fun even though it was the umpteenth take.
And through all of this, she was strengthening the skills she needed to read including:
- gross motor skills
- bilateral coordination
- crossing the midline
- visual tracking
- auditory development
- motor patterning
And the best part? She didn’t even realize how hard she was working on improving her reading skills. She was having fun! She thought she was just playing games. (Of course, it didn’t hurt that she had the motivation to work hard with the promise of a paycheck.)
No, she wasn’t reading independently after we finished recording the videos, but she had made significant progress. Hand clapping games had improved her reading ability.
Can hand clapping games help your child read? They certainly won’t take the place of reading lessons, but they can improve the skills he needs to read. Check them out today and see how you can improve your child’s reading ability through hand clapping games.
